We are dedicated breeders of Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, focused on raising healthy, well-balanced companions with stable temperaments. Our dogs are raised in a home environment with hands-on care, early socialization,
and thoughtful planning in every breeding.
We follow responsible, ethical breeding practices and remain a resource for our families well beyond pickup day. Our goal is not simply to place puppies, but to create lasting, successful matches for both puppy and family.

Our journey with Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers began not as breeders, but as dog owners searching for the right fit for our family. After losing a beloved rescue dog, we carefully researched breeds that would suit our home, lifestyle, and desire for a true companion. That search led us to the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier — and everything changed from there.
We were fortunate to find a Wheaten breeder near us at the time, and that is how Charlie came into our lives. From the beginning, Charlie captured our hearts with his intelligence, affectionate nature, and joyful personality. He embodied everything we had hoped for in a dog and quickly became an irreplaceable part of our family. Though Charlie has since passed, his impact on our lives — and on our program — remains at the heart of everything we do.
When the time came to add a second Wheaten, we hoped to give Charlie a companion. Wanting the best chance for harmony, we sought an opposite-sex match, only to learn that the breeder we trusted had retired. With no other Wheaten breeders nearby, we expanded our search and ultimately welcomed Bella, our female, from Missouri.
That experience highlighted a gap we hadn’t fully recognized before — the lack of local availability of responsibly bred Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers in Wisconsin and the surrounding region. What began as a personal journey grew into a purpose: to thoughtfully breed Wheatens and make this remarkable breed more accessible to families closer to home.
Wheatens on the River was created out of love for the breed, respect for responsible breeding, and a desire to help others experience the same joy Charlie brought into our lives. Our dogs are raised as part of our family, and we focus on temperament, health, and careful placement to ensure each puppy is matched with a home where they can thrive.

Ryely is a confident, affectionate female with a steady temperament and a strong connection to her people. She is intuitive and attentive as a mother, consistently producing puppies that are adaptable, people-focused, and well-suited for family life.

Sabrina is a retained puppy from our original breeding pair, Charlie and Bella, and carries forward Charlie’s legacy within our program. She is gentle, intuitive, and steady in temperament, reflecting the qualities we value most in the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.

Barron is a puppy we retained from Charlie and Bella and represents the foundation of Wheatens on the River. He is calm, affectionate, and reliable in temperament, consistently passing along stability and an easy adaptability to his puppies.

Finnegan is our newest male, thoughtfully selected to complement our program as it continues to grow. He is confident, social, and people-oriented, showing excellent promise as he matures within our breeding program.
